I`ve been waiting for the right time, some inspiration and in the meantime a decade has ticked by since my last foray into clock making. It could be worse, time might have just passed me by altogether.
Like several of the last directions The Waltz clocks were inspired by a summetime sculpture project called The Last Walt  which was a result of my Summer play things. Inspired with some ideas, I get to play around with resin components, branches, leaves, paintings, explore whatever I want and just as important no two are alike. The best of machine, art and handmade.

The lead in to the exhibition was Åste`s new animation projected onto fabric banners moving in the breeze. It explores her first month on arriving in New Zealand from Oslo, a fun idea with lots of possibilities for future  projects and collaborations.

The studio looks better than ever.
Thanks to all the artists that helped put it together and masses of visitors that made it all worthwhile!

Thanks to Amy Manfield for all the updates,  the Auckland White Night team that put it together and thanks for including what appears to be the only Artist`s Studio in the event.

Its a little bit of Melbourne in Ponsonby.
My 4x G grandparents immigrated to Melbourne1841. Grandfather to NZ in 1928.

Its late and I`m listening to Burt Bacharach covers. Its never been the easiest of months,  off  season for the gift trade, being productive & creative in winter so much harder. Its the first time my Dad has been away for his birthday, 86 and still going strong- my parents are celebrating it in Sydney with my brothers.
Things are looking positive, not sure why either!
Just got a large project in Singapore, the last 4 shows had record sales, retail & wholesale orders are up. Enquires are on the increase too.  Art projects are developing the way they should. Family research has been opening a surprising number doors from creatives, academics as well as relatives, providing encouragement for a museum grade exhibition. Even received  photos of my 3xG Grandmothers house and the bed she was born in 167 years ago. Its been a good month and not over yet.

Of course a finale is never enough with just wishful thinking.
Finally every passion, insecurity, idea, hope, aspiration, thought, angst and energy comes together in something that is bigger than the sum of the parts.
Art as a metaphor for life, sports, politics, business and society.  Maybe

Just play me an Anthem, unfurl a flag and I`ll beat the drum.

What other profession can ever weave a story with the dexterity of a back peddling politician?
With no idea who is watching, going who knows where

Crafting , reshaping thoughts and somehow ending up with more than the sum of the parts.
Still got the blues"
is it that close to making art? So much effort and thought, the euphoria has gone,  ideas thrown out and you begin to question why anything matters anymore.
The idealism of Art and Designs schools a distant memory and
maybe a trade would have been better after all!
