It was bit of a frosty night but we launched an arts initiative with our first meeting at The Malt in Westlynn. Essentially it will be about exploring dynamic and creative ideas within a collaborative umbrella including artists, designers, musicians, performers, photographers, animators, filmmakers, educators and creative thinkers.
What sparked this idea? Check out White Nights that was just the start.

At last! 60 hours of work finally achieved some results. The first program kept crashing while rendering the video, editing isn`t something that comes naturally, but at least I learnt some new skills if at times I wish I hadn`t started at all. Fortunately I was able to get find the music Fluid Azure by Pierre Gerwig Langer through Vimeo.com

Landscape inspired paintings 600 to 1000mm diameter, painted on board. The first paintings were for the carpark walls as it was getting tagged, it worked,  haven`t had any after several years!
The first sales of the paintings were to the new Hilton Hotel in Queenstown followed by sales through School Fundraising Art Shows and sales through the studio. Its several hundreds hours of painting in circles condensed to a little over 2 minutes and it doesn`t include the work on paper.

I`ve been waiting for the right time, some inspiration and in the meantime a decade has ticked by since my last foray into clock making. It could be worse, time might have just passed me by altogether.
Like several of the last directions The Waltz clocks were inspired by a summetime sculpture project called The Last Walt  which was a result of my Summer play things. Inspired with some ideas, I get to play around with resin components, branches, leaves, paintings, explore whatever I want and just as important no two are alike. The best of machine, art and handmade.

The lead in to the exhibition was Åste`s new animation projected onto fabric banners moving in the breeze. It explores her first month on arriving in New Zealand from Oslo, a fun idea with lots of possibilities for future  projects and collaborations.

The studio looks better than ever.
Thanks to all the artists that helped put it together and masses of visitors that made it all worthwhile!

Thanks to Amy Manfield for all the updates,  the Auckland White Night team that put it together and thanks for including what appears to be the only Artist`s Studio in the event.

Its a little bit of Melbourne in Ponsonby.
My 4x G grandparents immigrated to Melbourne1841. Grandfather to NZ in 1928.

Some might say it explains alot!

You know its the summer holidays when Ponsonby is hot and empty- its a good time to play around.
Digging out the half finished pieces, rummaging through boxes and flicking through old sketchbooks. Music at full volume drowning out the phone, its self indulgent bliss and a good way to start the year

Like a 6 string mass pipe band played with surgical precision. (yes its real)
Inspiration, power and passion with a climatic finale
Soundtracks to mirror the creative process,

From the intensity, anguish and relief at finishing a collection after its due by date,
to the torment of viewers dissecting efforts like a day old sandwich.
Or even worse give it scarcely a glance.
The pain of rejection or the exquisite taste of success.
Its enough to send chills down your spine, make the feeble weep and the strong gasp in pain.
Anthem one "Parisienne Walkways"
taking me to places I should have gone and probably never will.
To be inspired by what could be and then somewhere find the idea that kick starts the process once again

So close the doors, turn up the volume and take a deep breath

Tomorrow the second Anthem!
