65 days to go before we move out of the studio destination unknown! Just finished a submission for an art show with a series called LOOK LISTEN LEARN- devices for the study of wonderment
THE 70 DAY PROJECT
Its the beginning of the long goodbye, we've sold the studio, packing up and moving out.
It's a chance to have one last show, one last photo shoot, rediscover artworks, record and celebrate some milestones over the last couple of decades.
Along with hundreds of artworks and thousands of components, The Arts Menagerie will be also moving with us as well. Don`t know where we are going but its time to get ambitious with new opportunities beckoning!
The Arts Menagerie with Day 2 of their Night Circus Fiesta coinciding with Ponsonby`s Art in the Dark art show in Western Park just around the corner. Initially accepted then rejected but we did ours anyway.
Considering Art in the Dark is also funded by sponsors, rate payers including the Ponsonby Business Association which I pay for and a member of. Does 23 years of being a Ponsonby Arts business plus the biggest Art Collective in NZ count for nothing?
Its a poor reflection of segments in the Arts which seems to be not about creativity or inclusion but more about ego, arrogance and greed with a very narrow view of what is considered " important art."
The Politics of Art in New Zealand, is it more about protecting ones turf and being a big fish in a small pond.?
If so NZ creativity will always be second rate, as artists will never get the experience, exposure and freedom that other industries have.
