Chan Andreassend are not exhibiting at the Auckland Showgrounds this year, instead the studio will be open before ,during and after the trade fair till 7.30pm later if required. Located at 5 Rose Road just 25 metres off Ponsonby Road with undercover parking. It will be good not to have the hassle of offsite exhibiting for a change, plus we have the advantage of being able to display far more products than ever before. Plus you`ll be able to see some of the murals across the road starting with the portraits by Otis Frizzell. The 400 metre long project will take several months and will involve several groups.
This series of balancing sculptures continues along with wall mounted pieces. The detailing, finishes, shapes and colours all contributing to a toy like quality. The objects are made from resin utilising several casting technigues, table ones 275mm h & wall 500mm
The Last Waltz Project
The first artworks developed from my summer R&D projects. Dawdling abit though several artshows are getting in the way, two this month. Carefully balanced on a steel edge they use a combination of cast & embedded resin, branch, shells, brass wire as well as surplus components. 5-600mm high.
The excavation in Ponsonby that saw waste to a $270million project is finally coming to life after 4 years. Located across the street from the studio its a welcome start to the year. As befitting the Auckland`s legendary inner city suburb, the 400metre perimeter is being painted by a group of artists and not just any artists either. Otis Frizzell, Karl Maughan,Dan Tippett, Adrian Jackman ring a bell? The paintings will be auctioned for charity at the end of construction of a new supermarket, lets hope the mural is an indicator of things to come!
It will be a brave person that attempts to steal this lot. Estimated worth min $1000/m? considering Otis`s giclee prints start at $700 and Karl`s painting $3.5k its anyones guess. Its an exciting start to a 2 year project and 5000 truckloads of earth to returned and compacted, the multi level carpark that was planned is no longer wanted.
