My fathers 85th Birthday present a series of pastel drawings of his grandmothers Kerosene Lantern

Every family has their stories, aspirations, connections, celebrations and milestones. As well as the shadows that are sometimes cast over a generation. Some are from immigration, circumstance, war, culture, mistakes, ignorance and seemingly fate.
My family is no exception
.
So many stories, explanations and connections have been lost over the last 100+ years, this ongoing project  continues to research genealogy and rebuild family bonds, while reflecting  family history. Sadly one ancestral line is missing, my Dad`s father, an unknown Chinese, comments have been made his name was Jim Yuan possibly working at Saltwater Creek Gardens in Timaru in 1925. The Gardens were operated by three Ng brothers. One of them is known as Charlie Lum who is also my Great Aunt Hannah`s Husband. Married in 1916 in Timaru and went onto have 7 children who were brought up by my Great Grandparents after Hannah died in 1929. She had just returned from China with the children. Charle apparently died several months earlier in China after falling off a cart. My Dad was also brought up by his grandparents as their own son. When Dad was 50 he found out who his mother actually was and he was half Chinese. The search will continue.......

The objects vary in media and reflect some aspect of family connections whether they are my Great Grandparents objects,  Chinese papercut Tiki, Occupations or Events or simply inspired by my children .
